Founded in 2010, Wish Upon a Wedding, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to granting weddings and vow renewals for couples facing serious illness or life-altering circumstances. The Wish Upon a Wedding Southern California 2015 Blissful Wishes Ball at the Intercontinental Hotel Century City, raised funds to continue this work.
With 150 guests in attendance as well as National President Ali Phillips, VP Lacy Branch, and Event Chair Ali Markman, the ballroom looked beautiful with a Modern Love theme that included florals by Lotus and Lily, Peony and Plum, Doyle Borden, Flower Duet. The design was led by Jackie Combs of Lotus and Lily and included faux croc tables with mirrored tops by LM Event Productions, stunning damask linens by Elegant Designs Specialty Linens, and Chameleon Chairs by Classic Party Rentals.
Scott Cummings Music entertained guests during the cocktail hour and auction, while in the ballroom everyone grooved along with Thelma Houston and The Replicas. The live auction was lively with celebrity Food Network Chef Rahm Fama taking the stage and becoming a live auction item with a personalized cooking class and experience.
The most moving moment of the night was when four of wish recipients took the podium to talk about their wedding experiences and how WUW has affected them. The couples were Ana and Mark, Tammy and Chris, Iran and Daymond, and Mikela and Aaron who had only married days before. The recipients of this year’s Shining Star Awards were given to Retro Ranch, Friar Tux Shop as well as a few other places where they could rent a suit online, and Mon Amie Bridal Salon.
How does Wish Upon A Wedding differ from other nonprofits in the wedding industry?
“WUW’s existence is to specifically focus on providing wedding and vow renewals for couples facing illness and life altering circumstances. As a wedding planner with a background in nonprofit work, Wish Upon a Wedding allows me, and countless of other wedding and hospitality professionals, to help people celebrate love, while encouraging those in the event planning industries to give selflessly to others.” Liz Guthrie, Founder of Wish Upon a Wedding
Why have you dedicated your time and experience in the industry to Wish Upon A Wedding?
“I believe that to celebrate love and share wedding vows, is a universal right. When life’s circumstances stand in the way, I’m proud to know that Wish Upon A Wedding can step in to help deserving couples have one day where all they experience is love. It humbles me that I can do my part to give a deserving couple joy and the gift of love for one special day.” Jeannie Ward, 3WishesPR and WUW President Southern California Chapter
How can one become a part of WUW and help in its efforts to grant wishes?
“There are many facets in which an individual and/or company can join in WUW’s cause. From individual volunteering on a local or national level to donating a wedding dress to hosting a fundraiser, Wish Upon A Wedding is a nonprofit that is truly able to sustain itself on the support of their community and fellow events professionals. Everyone deserves to have the most romantic, fabulous wedding day of their lives. I support Wish Upon A Wedding and encourage my friends and colleagues in the wedding and events industry to join in this cause!” Steve Kemble, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru
