This is the latest in our Designer’s Notebooks series in which designers turn back the pages of their “notebooks” to revisit their favorite events or awards. In this case, Keep Memory Alive was a finalist under Best Event Venue for the 2015 Event Solutions Spotlights.

Designed by legendary architect Frank Gehry, the Keep Memory Alive Event Center in Las Vegas is a 9,200-square-foot blank canvas built to help preserve memory but also create new ones. Nestled in the downtown Symphony Park just minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, the modern architectural wonder demands attention and offers that “wow” factor before even stepping across the threshold.
Walking through the breezeway and lush Gehry-designed garden into the undulating stainless steel canopy dotted with 199 windows (no two the same shape or size), one can’t help but let the mind wander to imagine the almost infinite amount of ways the space can be transformed.
From weddings, corporate events and product launches, bar and bat mitzvahs and charity galas to social celebrations, the event center combines iconic design, extraordinary dining and the city’s most innovative LED light presentation to create a truly unique experience. With the proceeds going to the research, treatment and clinical studies at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, every unforgettable event will help others remember.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas HeART of Giving Gala
The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Greater Las Vegas, a non-profit organization that creates and supports programs to directly improve the health, education and well being of local children, celebrated 16 years of service with their rock ‘n roll-inspired HeART of Giving Gala for 350 guests in October 2014.
Guests were greeted by classic cars lining the entrance while the spacious breezeway, garden and museum areas provided a stunning backdrop to display more than 100 silent auction items with easy accessibility and without creating a bottleneck. The event center staff ensured the flow of the night was perfect, as guests moved from the breezeway and outdoor spaces into the event center space for dinner. Provided by the new catering company Cut and Taste, the menu played off the musical theme with “Smashing Pumpkins Dumplings” and “Red Hot Chili Pepper Sliders.” Intrinsic provided technicians and audio visual equipment for the evening’s entertainment, working with RMHC’s non-profit budget.
Celebrity Chef Kerry Simon Says Fight MSA
Las Vegas has always been the hub of legendary concerts and celebrity chefs and in February 2014, the two worlds came together in a fundraiser for “Iron Chef America” winner Kerry Simon for his battle against the degenerative neurological brain disorder Multiple System Atrophy.
Known as the “rock and roll chef,” the evening sought to recreate the soundtrack of Chef Simon’s life with life-long friends and supporters. The versatile LED lighting system, stage and sound system provided a rocking backdrop for performances from Alice Cooper, Slash, Sammy Hagar, Vince Neil, Lisa Loeb and comedian Bill Murray, all of whom needed varying technical needs. The 3,000-square foot Wolfgang Puck-designed kitchen allowed chefs including Daniel Boulud, Charlie Palmer, Michael Mina and more to prepare creative tastes for 450 guests.
Iconic Las Vegas showgirls lined the red carpet to greet guests with a glass of champagne and guests partied well into the early morning hours with cocktails from the massive bar erected in the middle of the event center floor. Raising nearly $525,000, Kerry Simon Says Fight MSA helped bring the possibility of a cure one step closer in an epic night of music and food.
Rex Mack Bar Mitzvah
From corporate events and charities to individual social celebrations, the Keep Memory Alive Event Center creates one-of-a-kind experiences such as Rex Mack’s bar mitzvah. More than 200 guests arrived to the lively and exciting construction tool-themed party held in August 2014.
Combining a party for both children and adults and creating a fun atmosphere for everybody presented a challenge from the beginning. Event center staff created vignettes throughout the venue, providing specific spaces for the groups to enjoy separately.
Construction gear and tool themed décor hung from the ceiling and special flooring was brought in for gymnastics and Cirque performances. A photo booth provided take-home memories and Four Seasons created kid and adult-friendly food stations with grilled artichoke bruschetta and gourmet grilled cheese. “Rex’s Food Truck” was driven inside the event center, adding to the whimsical nature of the party.
Guests left the event happy, full and with lifelong memories, all goals the Keep Memory Alive Event Center aims to cultivate with every occasion.
