Miami/South Florida is a worldwide gateway for visitors and locals alike. A fusion of large urban city with many cultural influences, fast paced lifestyle, a vibrant cultural arts and music scene, burgeoning tech and entrepreneurial hub and of course a tropical, fun party atmosphere. Miami serves as the ideal environment to inspire exciting wedding and special event designs for destination and local clients. Exciting new hotel venues and independent event spaces, gentrified neighborhoods such as Wynwood and the revitalized, upcoming Miami River and Little Havana neighborhoods, world class restaurants/caterers raising the bar on event food and beverage service, a vast inventory of event rental and production companies, a talented entertainment pool and of course fabulous year round weather are just some of the reasons that Miami and South Florida are becoming a leading destination for weddings and special events.
Although Miami/South Florida has become a rock star destination for all types of special events, there are a few challenges to consider when planning events. First and foremost is the unconventional weather. For example, early September to early June is the prime event season. With summer weather too hot, rainy and muggy to be desirable for entertaining, it’s best to plan around these months to avoid event mishaps. Also, hurricane season doesn’t officially end until end of November so that is always something to be aware of when planning fall events.
Second is cost factor for travel and lodging. Winter and spring months can be quite costly in terms of travel and hotel rates. If guests are expected to pay their own travel and lodging it is always good to consider fall and late spring/early summer for more affordable rates. Last, depending on time of year, overcrowding and congestion can play a factor in planning local events. It is a great idea to check the calendar as there are several large scale annual events that make getting around town an added challenge such as Art Basel (December), Miami International Boat Show (February), and Ultra Music Festival (March) to name a few. Not to mention the northern and mid-western “snow birds” that vacation seasonally on our beautiful beaches, filling up restaurants and roadways. Last, if you are desirous of an outside event, always have a rain plan that fits your vision.
Some top event venues in Miami/South Florida are St. Regis Bal Harbour, Villa Vizcaya, The Edition Hotel, The Bath Club, The Temple House, The Breakers in Palm Beach, Perez Art Museum (PAMM), Marlins Park, Mandarin Oriental, Ritz Carlton (there are 5 to choice from), Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Doral Trump, Vanderbilt Manson at Fisher Island Club, Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fillmore Miami, Villa at Casa Casuarina (Versace Mansion) and The Sacred Space Miami.
